Our Final Journey

Petey is having a terrible, terrible night. He’s not eating. He can’t get comfortable. He’s hiding.

And when I look in his eyes, I see that the fight is gone.

He’s ready for the last leg of the journey. And I’m ready to help him take that last step enveloped in love.

It’s the last gift I can give this little cat, who has been my joy for the past 6 years.

Thank you for supporting us through the many peaks and valleys of this journey.

Send lots of love our way in the morning. And remember Petey as the pure, exuberant spirit he’s always been — like the kitten in the big cat’s body.

I leave you with this picture of kitten Petey. It’s always been one of my favorites.

I’m so sorry to hear about Petey’s difficulties, Gail…

But I am praying for your boy!!! It seems such a small effort compared to what you and Petey have faced, but I am gonna do my best for you and him!

I know that this is very, very hard. I lost a kitty to cancer too, last Spring. But you are doing all you can, and Petey knows! And he loves you lots!

Oh Alfa I’m so sorry. I can’t believe how much I’ve come to love a cat I’ve never met. It is so evident through your writing how much love you and the mr. have for petey. Gizmo will continue to do stupid things and act like an eternal kitten just for Petey, I promise she will never get smarter. You and Petey will be in my thoughts in the morning.

Gayle…..I’m just heartbroken with you. Through your writings, I’ve shared your love for Petey. In some of his pictures – I see a special look in his eyes and can feel his spirit, his playful, “trouble” energy. How lucky he was to have shared your love and you to have shared his.

Knowing he is ready and letting him go is the ultimate gift of love….

Praying your last night is full of cuddles and some comfort. Keeping you in our thoughts.

Oh, I just got the post on the Cat Blogosphere and am crying. Poor little guy. We are praying for him now and will be in the morning also.

We are heartbroken. We are so sorry to hear these sad news – it is just so awful to lose a loved one.

We just learned from the Cat Blogosphere about Petey and we are so sorry for hims and for you.

My heart is breaking for you. I too had to help a lymphoma kitty to the bridge. It was hard, but at the same time, loving and peaceful. He, too, knew it was time. He was only 3.

Words sometimes are lost by us, for a kitty that we know is giving a good fight but just can’t do it any more. We know you love him and he always thought his beans were the best.

Gayle, I am so, so sorry. How blessed Petey is, that you have the strength to let him go peacefully, and to ease his suffering, even though it breaks your heart. You have loved him and taken care of him throughout his life, and you are loving him and taking care of him now.

I hope that, in the midst of your loss and sorrow, you will find a little bit of peace and lightness, knowing that your sweet Petey felt your love every second of his life, and that he doesn’t have to fight and suffer any more, and he can rest now.

As much as it hurts, you must do what is right for Petey. We too, had to put down our cat Puff at age 6 due to cancer, but we couldn’t allow her to suffer.
